Chiefs’ Arthur Zwane provides injury updates on Billiat and Du Preez

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has given promising updates on his key players Khama Billiat and Ashley Du Preez who’ve been nursing injuries.

The duo missed Amakhosi’s first DStv Premiership match after the FIFA World Cup break this past weekend.

The Glamour Boys resumed the season with top gear, easing past Lamonville Golden Arrows with a 2-0 victory at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

According to Zwane, Ashley Du Preez was supposed to start the match, however, he voluntarily asked to be dropped from the line up as he wasn’t feeling well.

Meanwhile, Khama Billiat is inches away from joining the team in training as he has started jogging.

“Khama started jogging this past weekend and ‘Ash’ [Ashley Du Preez] was actually supposed to start the game but he came to me and said, coach, I’m not comfortable,” Zwane told the media.

“And then I said to him listen, we don’t obviously want to play a player that doubts himself.

“At the time, we want a fit Ash as well, but he’s not far in terms of returning at any given time.

“When we start training in two days time, we’ll monitor him and check if he’s gonna be ready for the next game.

“If not, we’ll still play other players until he’s fit and ready to compete.”

Former PSL and Zimbabwe national team coach Sunday Chidzambwa says Khama Billiat should not be fingered for Kaizer Chiefs’ failure to break Mamelodi Sundowns' stranglehold of the DStv Premiership.

When available for selection, Billiat and Du Preez have been utilised regularly this season.

The absence of an attacking pair has handed opportunities to the likes of Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Mduduzi Shabalala, and Wandile Duba who featured in the previous match.

With Chiefs set to square off with Sekhukhune United in their next match, it remains to be seen whether Billiat and Du Preez will be fit to get a run.

The match will take place on Saturday, 7 January at the FNB Stadium with kickoff set for 20:00.
