Doctor Khumalo set to grace the Zimbabwe Football Forum
Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo is set to be one of the keynote speakers at the inaugural Zimbabwe Football Forum.
The forum is pencilled to take place on the 14th of October in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare, with several high-profile figures expected to grace the football extravaganza.
Former Chelsea and Ghana coach Avram Grant is also expected to attend.
According to the event organisers, Khumalo and Grant are expected to help Zimbabwean football stakeholders with ideas and strategies of how they can unlock value in their local game.
Organiser Terrence Mulenga of TinManh Sports expects the forum to be an eye-opener.
THE AIM OF THE FORUM
“We haven’t really commercialised the game; we haven’t really professionalised the game. We are still behind; in fact, we haven’t started.
“So, this is a platform where we are going to explore ways we can create an industry out of football.
“What I intend to do is to promote investment, innovation and creativity in our football industry.
“To help us achieve this, we have external experts coming in to share their experience and knowledge.
“From the region, we have South African legend Doctor Khumalo coming in to support and give us his experience,” Mulenga said.
Khumalo has been one of the most valuable former footballers looking at his contribution to the development of the game over the years.
Meanwhile, the forum comes at a time when Zimbabwe is suspended from international football owing to government interference in football matters.
Last year FIFA suspended Zimbabwe after the government’s Sports and Recreation Commission [SRC] removed Felton Kamambo and his executive from the office of the country’s football mother body.
And the SRC has ignored calls from different stakeholders to reinstate the ZIFA executive as directed by FIFA, saying they are cleansing the local game.
