Double blow for Bafana’s Njabulo Blom in the MLS

Bafana Bafana and St Louis City midfield grafter Njabulo Blom suffered a double blow in the MLS on Sunday morning.

It was a bad day in the office for the Bradley Carnell-coached side as they lost heavily to Seattle Sounders.

For the former Kaizer Chiefs star, it was a double blow. The 23-year-old got injured and was forced off during his side’s painful 3-0 defeat at the hands of Seattle Sounders.

Blom, who was a second-half substitute for Louis City, could not finish the match. He had to be replaced late on as Carnell’s side suffered another defeat.

After a brilliant start to the season that saw them win their first five league matches, Carnell’ St Louis has found the going tougher in recent matches.

ANOTHER DEFEAT FOR ST LOUIS CITY

They have now lost their last two matches on the spin. They fell 1-0 at the hands of Bongokuhle Hlongwane’s Minnesota United last time out.

They have now been toppled by the self-same Sounders. Sounders are now the log leaders with 16 points from their seven matches, a point clear of Louis City in second.

Blom, who is yet to start a match for Louis City since recovering from an undisclosed illness that kept him out of Bafana Bafana’s friendlies against Liberia, has now suffered another setback.

INJURY SETBACK FOR NJABULO BLOM

The former Amakhosi midfield workhorse replaced American midfielder Miguel Perez in the 63rd minute. However, he was forced off through injury 15 minutes later.

Blom was on the field, though, when his side conceded two of the three goals before the South African was subbed off for Brazilian winger Célio Pompeu.

The Chiefs academy graduate will now be in a race against time to try and recover for his side’s next match. They take on Cincinnati at home next Sunday.
