Folz explains why AmaZulu are not ready for CAF competitions

“It’s embarrassing, honestly."

AmaZulu FC head coach Romain Folz has given the reason why he feels his side isn’t ready for CAF competitions.

‘Fohloza’ was speaking after AmaZulu bowed out of Nedbank Cup after losing to the third-tier side Dondol Stars on Wednesday.

Knowing that winning Nedbank Cup secures one a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup, losing in the last 16 meant Usuthu’s chances to represent the country in Africa have become slim.

However, Folz’s charges still have a chance to go to Africa if they finish in second or third position in the DStv Premiership.

However, the 32-year-old says they’re not yet fit for the continental competitions as they have goalscoring problems.

ROMAIN FOLZ ON WHY AMAZULU AREN’T READY FOR CAF COMPETITIONS

“From here, we’re just looking to do the best possible way in the league,” he told journalists.

“We’re looking to reach the highest spot possible. But if you ask me, at this moment in time, yes it’s the closest way to go to CAF. At this moment in time, we’re not ready to go to CAF.

“Maybe there are other teams who are ready to go to CAF, they’re going to be the better representatives. We will be ready, we will, but at this moment in time if you miss so many chances, you’re not ready.

“Maybe we’ll be, we’d grab the spot in the league and it’s something that we’re looking for. But if you miss those type of chances, how you’re gonna to the competitions.”

The French-Moroccan coach says it’s concerning to see his forwards failing to convert from close range.

He says during the 90 minutes, they don’t give what give in training.

‘YOU’RE PAID TO DO THAT’

“If I have to be completely honest, if you take [Gabadinho] Mhango his best chance, the left-foot shot and he hit the post, [Ethan] Brooks, he hit the post, what do you want to tell me?” he asked.

“Those are not the ones I’m focusing on, I’m focusing on the ones we have on the box from crosses and you happen to miss the target, those ones are concerning.

“The only way to fix that is to work more, also for the players to have a look on themselves. I’m going to show them exactly what happened when we do the video for them to realise to miss something like that.

“It’s embarrassing, honestly; you’re a striker, you’re paid to do that, you miss, it’s embarrassing.

“We can only hope for them to wake up and understand that if you have chances like that, you need to score.”
