Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Joseph Kamwendo has finally accepted his coaching demotion at childhood club Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in Malawi.
He felt the decision by the club to move him to the reserve side was a breach on his contract with the team.
Kamwendo had issues with management’s decision to demote him from first team assistant coach to a similar role with the reserves.
However, the former Flames star told The Daily Times newspaper that all was water under the bridge now.
“All I wanted was to understand the terms of my redeployment. I am grateful that club officials spared precious time to explain to me what was their decision entails,” Kamwendo said.
“I was assured that my package would remain the same despite moving to the reserve team. This was confirmed in a letter that I received on August 24, so there are no issues.”
The former Caps United star is working under reserve team coach Bob Mpinganjira who, too, was ejected from the main team where he served as head coach.
THE ONLY ISSUE…
The Nomads spokesperson Ernest Maganga told The Daily Times newspaper that Kamwendo merely delayed in reporting for duty and not that he was against his redeployment.
“The only issue that I know is that when he was redeployed to the reserve side, he spent about three weeks without reporting for duties. When he was summoned, he was apologetic and promised to resume his duties,” Maganga said.
It was earlier reported that the former TP Mazembe winger had sought a legal opinion on Wanderers’ management’s decision to send him to the reserve team.
His demotion was part of the reshuffle that resulted in the coming in of coach Alex Ngwira to join technical director Eddingtone Ngonamo in the coaching panel.
Ng’onamo was doubling as coach before Ngwira’s hiring.
Wanderers struggled in the first round of what is Kamwendo’s first season as a coach after retiring last season.
The former Zimbabwe Soccer Star of the Year 2005/06 has an elementary coaching badge that does not permit him to manage a top-flight club in Malawi.
Kamwendo spent four seasons at Pirates from the year 2007 when he joined the Soweto side from Nordsjaeland in Denmark.
