Bafana Bafana Hugo Broos facing a potential selection headache

With the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers fast approaching, Bafana Bafana gaffer Hugo Broos looks set to endure a selection headache in the striking department.

But since appointment, the Belgian gaffer, Hugo Broos, has tried hard to rotate forwards in search of the rightful goal-getter
He gave the likes of Ashley Du Preez, Khanyisa Mayo, Zakhele Lepasa and Evidence Makgopa an opportunity to show their pedigree in friendly matches played last year.
Broos also said he was impressed by how Bafana played in their last two friendly matches against Mozambique and Angola.
“It was a good taste, what we showed in those two games and in two games.
“I’m sure that we’ll qualify for AFCON because we can play good football, we can play modern football.
“I’m satisfied about the camp; we played two games, two times against an opponent that will be similar in March against Liberia.
“We played against a difficult opponent, we played very good behind the ball, then the breakout they were very dangerous,” Broos said aftee the friendlies.
The former Cameroon gaffer waxed lyrical after his charges created multiple chances but the conversation rate remains worrisome.
Against Mozambique they won 2-1 before being held to a one all draw by Angola on Sunday.
As he took the positive changes in the team, the 70-year-old faces yet another selection headache in the striking department.
Bafana Bafana will play against Liberia in the AFCON qualifiers in March.
THE EMERGENCE OF CASSIUS MAILULA
The emergence of in-form Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Cassius Mailula appears to have left Broos spoilt for choice.
Mailula’s impressive exploits all but make him a firm candidate to break into the Bafana Bafana set-up.
The 21-year-old has been on song for the Tshwane giants. He is among the top goal scorers this season, with seven goals to his name.
Mailula is two goals behind the leading scorer, Peter Shalulile.
On the otherhand Lyle Foster’s rise into England Championship, Burnley naturally makes him a force to reckon with.
Foster made his Bafana Bafana debut in 2018 and has one goal to his name. The same goes for United States-based forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane.
The former Maritzburg striker, Hlongwane made his debut in July 2019. He has made ten appearances for Bafana Bafana, with two goals to his name.
Former Cape Town City forward Fagrie Lakay is another striker with good credentials although he is yet to score for Bafana.
He has so far made five appearances for the senior national team.
