Jose Riveiro explains why he feels relieved lately
Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has explained why he feels relieved with his side’s current state.
The Buccaneers have had an impressive run lately, winning four games in a row in all competitions.
With their win over the past weekend, they skipped SuperSport United to sit second on the log standings of the DStv Premiership.
Riveiro says he’s pleased that they’ve started to maintain consistency which they were lacking earlier this season.
JOSE RIVEIRO EXPLAINS WHY HE FEELS RELIEVED LATELY
“The results are there,” he said in response to FARPost.
“And we could have a look at the results in 2023 in the last games, we will find Pirates winning a lot of games.
“And that’s easy to see. What is more important for me is what I see from the players every day in the training, what they try to do in the games.
“The way they fought today [Richards Bay] and every single action. The way they fought now in the end and also in the extra time, trying to not concede.
“That’s the most important [thing]. And that’s what is gonna make us be consistent.
“I think it’s a reality already. We’re always discussing about…there’s always one topic to discuss.
“Earlier in the season, we were discussing that we don’t capitalise the chances. Then we were discussing that we don’t score in the second half.
“Now, lack of consistency. But in this moment we are second [on the table].
“We’re getting there, we’re getting right. The team, from my point of view, is improving. That’s what we feel inside with the players.
“But the limit is still far, this team must or should, in the future, even play better. At the same time that is consistent.”
The ‘Spanish guitar’ also expressed delight after they kept two clean sheets in a row.
Pirates won 1-0 against SuperSport two weeks ago before they beat the Natal Rich Boyz 2-0 this past weekend.
He went on to explain how difficult it was to shut the back doors against Gavin Hunt’s men.
RIVEIRO ON FACING SUPERSPORT
“[We kept a clean sheet] one week ago or two weeks ago against SuperSport, tough opponents that force you to play in a different way,” he added.
“They punish the teams when you make mistakes in transition, in setpieces. We kept a clean sheet here again.
“It’s talking well about consistency that you mentioned.”
