Keagan Dolly shoulders blame for Kaizer Chiefs’ poor form

"But I take [pressure]. It's something new to me, it is a challenge that I need to deal with."

Keagan Dolly’s stint at Kaizer Chiefs is becoming more like a nightmare, with his display of late in the Gold and Black jersey leaving a lot to be desired.

The highly-rated midfielder says that when he penned a deal with Chiefs about two years ago, he knew the intense pressure of playing for the club and the enormous expectations from the fans.

And with the club continuing to blow hot and cold this season, Dolly is fully taking responsibility for Amakhosi’s poor form as one of the club’s captains and senior players.

Dolly has been in and out of coach Arthur Zwane’s side due to below-par performances.

He admitted that he and the rest of the squad could do better as they prepare to take on arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby on Saturday, 25 February.

The Soweto giants are in fifth place on the DStv Premiership log standings after 20 games, registering only eight wins.

WHY KEAGAN DOLLY IS TAKING BLAME FOR CHIEFS’ POOR FORM

“I knew coming to Chiefs that there would be pressure, based on where I’ve played before, based on how I performed in the past,” said Dolly.

“But I take it [pressure]. It’s something new to me, it is a challenge that I need to deal with, and I feel like I’m dealing well with it.

“I don’t feel like it’s making me feel bad towards the situation or anything. It’s a challenge that I’m looking forward to, you know, dealing with. And I think I’ve been doing well.

The former French Ligue 1 side Montpellier SC star has featured in 23 matches in all competitions for Chiefs with four goals and four assists.

These statistics indicate that Dolly, regarded as a ‘big player’, is not on top of his game and is struggling to hit top gear this campaign.

“I feel like a lot of times if the team isn’t doing very well, the blame comes to me, but I’ll take it; I’m one of the captains,” he said.

“I’m one of the senior players. I’ve come with experience, and it’s part of the game, and I just need to soldier on.”

Chiefs will take on Pirates on Saturday at FNB Stadium in a DStv Premiership clash, with kickoff set for 15:30.
