No Mosimane for Raja Casablanca as they hire Tunisian
Moroccan top-flight league club Raja Casablanca has unveiled Tunisian Mondher Kebaier as their new coach.
Raja Casablanca’s recruitment of the former Tunisia coach ends reports that had suggested that they would hire South African Pitso Mosimane.
Reports from the media in Morocco and Egypt had during the week suggested that Mosimane was the frontrunner to replace Faouzi Benzarti at Raja Casablanca.
RAJA CASABLANCA SACKED COACH
Raja Casablanca had sacked Benzarti last week after three winless games of two draws and a defeat in the domestic league in Morocco.
Inevitably, the name of Mosimane came in the picture now that he is a free agent after resigning from Al Ahly in June this year.
The former SuperSport coach Mosimane resigned citing immense pressure at Al Ahly.
MOSIMANE’S REPUTATION
Mosimane has a big reputation in North Africa after leading Al Ahly to the CAF Champions League titles in the year 2020 and 2021 before losing in the final this year.
However, the former Bafana Bafana handler insists he is taking a break from football in order to recharge the batteries.
Mosimane resigned from Al Ahly job soon after the 2-0 loss to Wydad Casablanca in June this year.
He had become under intense criticism especially from some Al Ahly former players. Portugiese Ricardo Soares replaced Mosimane in June this year but he too lasted for just two months on the job.
The Red have since hired for Austria coach Marcel Koller.
The Moroccans have now settled for the former Tunisia national team trainer Kebaier.
Moroccan football website Le360 says Kebaier launched his coaching career in 1998 with AS Djerba.
Kebaier went on to join Etoile du Sahel then Club Athletique Bizertin in 2013.
His career took an upward trajectory when he landed the Tunisia national team coaching job in 2019.
Kebaier was, however, shown the exit door following the Super Eagles poor run of form at the 2021 AFCON.
Now the Tunisian is tasked with reviving the fortunes of Raja Casablanca who are on position 11 on the log table with a paltry three points.
