Parker explains muted celebration after scoring against Chiefs
TS Galaxy forward Bernard Parker has explained his muted celebration after scoring against his former club, Kaizer Chiefs.
Parker told SuperSport TV he was overwhelmed with emotions playing at FNB Stadium in Wednesday’s DStv Premiership encounter.
“It was very emotional, but I am a professional. I came here to do a job. I think, well, together with the team, we had a chance to come out with a win. But we will take the draw,” Parker said.
The former Bafana Bafana star said he was desperate to open his scoring account for Galaxy.
“I was looking forward to the goal because I look sharp, I feel sharp, and I feel good. And, I think it was just for me to get the goal and let everything flow. I think with this goal, everything will flow,” Parker said.
Parker came off the bench to replace Lefa Hlongwane and made an instant impact. He flicked the ball into the net from a corner kick.
The former Chiefs striker added that he wanted to start the game, but coach Sead Ramovic had other ideas.
“I worked hard to be on the pitch during the week. I wanted to start the match. But the coach said he had a different plan, so I understood,” the 36-year-old said.
“I sat on the bench. Coming on, I made an impact with the equalizer. As a professional, as a Benard Parker, what I have done here at FNB Stadium, all the memories came in… it was joy….”
Parker’s goal cancelled out Ashley Du Preez opener for Chiefs.
Galaxy then went ahead through Ivorian Junior Traore. Keegan Dolly then restored parity with a sumptuous free-kick late in the game.
Chiefs released Parker and other long-serving players, ending the striker’s 11-year romance with the Glamour Boys.
Parker trained with SuperSport, but he did not earn a contract before Galaxy handed him the career lifeline.
