PSL confirms dates and venues for Nedbank Cup semifinals

The PSL on Friday, 21 April, confirmed the dates and venues for the much-anticipated semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

The Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will be staged at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 06 May at 15:00.

Meanwhile, the second semi-final between Sekhukhune United and Stellenbosch will be played at Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday, 07 May at 18:00.

RECENT HISTORY FOR CHIEFS AND PIRATES IN NEDBANK CUP

The tie between the Soweto giants will be a big fixture of the weekend, with both clubs looking to seize the first spot in the final.

The Buccaneers are aiming for second silverware this season after they hoisted MTN8 in November last year.

It would also be their second under Jose Riveiro, who joined the club at the start of the season.

The last time the Buccaneers played in the Nedbank Cup final was when they lost to SuperSport United in the 2016/17 season.

Coming back from that final empty-handed, Ezimnyama Ngenkani were under the guidance of Kjell Jonevret.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi’s last appearance in the Nedbank Cup final was in 2019 when they lost to the then-second-tier side TS Galaxy.

Ernst Middendorp was the mentor of the Glamour Boys at the time, losing to Dan Malesela who was leading the Rockets’ youthful side.

This competition is the last opportunity for Arthur Zwane to end his maiden season as Chiefs head coach with silverware. It’s also an opportunity to terminate an over seven-year trophy drought.

SEKHUKHUNE OR STELLIES TO REACH TOP-FLIGHT CUP FINAL FOR FIRST TIME EVER

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune and Stellies are in the Nedbank Cup semi-final for the first time since earning promotions from the second tier.

The Western Cape side has been in the top-flight since 2019 while Babina Noko won promotion in 2021.

One of them will make history, reaching the final for the first time since they moved up to the DStv Premiership.

The final will take place on the 27th of May and PSL is yet to confirm the venue.
