Reading FC inducts ex-Swallows coach into Hall of Fame

Former Swallows coach Dylan Kerr has been inducted into Reading FC Hall of Fame in the United Kingdom.

The English Championship team presented Kerr with the recognition in absentia on Monday.

The recognition came barely a week after Swallows management sacked the Englishman over the team’s dip in form in the DStv Premiership.

During the ceremony, Reading hailed Kerr’s impact at the club describing it as “a short but glorious stay—third tier title medal…Player of the Season.”

The former Black Leopards coach has since been savouring the moment with his friends in South Africa where he is based.

“Presenting my friends with a bottle of Champagne to say thank you for being such amazing friends and thank you for a surprise lunch to help me pre celebrate my inauguration Reading FC Hall of Fame,” he tweeted.

“It’s such an amazing honour to be included in Reading FC Hall of Fame. Thank you everyone especially Paul Tanner for accepting this award for me.”

Kerr embarked on his adventure of South Africa in the 1980s when he was released by Sheffield Wednesday.

TRIP DOWN SOUTH

The 55-year-old played for Arcadia Shepherds FC, then a well-known top team in South Africa.

Kerr eventually returned to England to play for Leeds until the year 1993 during which time he spent some months on loan at Doncaster Rovers and Blackpool.

SHARING FIELD WITH ERIC CANTONA

At Elland Road, Kerr had company of star players such as Eric Cantona who went on his establish himself as Manchester United legend.

A move to Reading followed in the year 1993 and he spent three years with them.

He played for several clubs before venturing into management.

JOSE MOURINHO’S CLASSMATE

He graduated with a UEFA Pro-Licence in the same class with celebrated coach Jose Mourinho.

Kerr is a well-traveled coach who also made a name in Kenya where he won the domestic league title with Gor Mahia.

The English also managed clubs such as Simba SC in Tanzania.

He has coached South African clubs such as TTM between 2018 and 2019 then Baroka FC in the 2020 season.
