Reports link Pitso Mosimane’s name with Simba coaching job
Pitso Mosimane has once again been linked with Tanzania Mainland Premier League’s Simba’s vacant coaching job, according to reports.
Burundi’s authoritative website Foot+257 has made a claim after the former Tanzania league champions sacked Zoran Manoljovic on Tuesday.
“Pitso Mosimane is likely to be appointed as the new @SimbaSC Tanzania head coach. Talks are reportedly ongoing between the two parties,” Foot+257 says.
The tweet has excited some fans, with Sam Kicheko responding: “If Pitso Mosimane is coming to Simba, then we are already over [the moon].”
However, it is not the first time that the name of the former Al Ahly coach has been linked to coaching jobs.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach is consistently cited as a possible candidate for top jobs in Africa, Europe, and Asia.
Mosimane has, since his shock resignation from Al Ahly in June this year, been linked to jobs for Iraq national football team, even a return to the Cairo giants.
Some fans, especially from South Africa, have even gone on social media to advocate for his consideration for Bournemouth’s job in the Premier League.
Mosimane recently travelled to South Africa at the invitation of Simba’s rivals Yanga SC to participate in coaching clinics and watch a game as part of Citizen’s Week on August 6 2022.
The former Bafana Bafana mentor admitted that he had fallen in love with Tanzanian football. Still, it is unclear if he would leave his friendship with Yanga management aside and join the rivals Simba.
Simba sacked the coach barely 57 days after hiring him to replace Spaniard Pablo Franco Martin.
The Tanzanians travel to Malawi to face Nyasa Big Bullets in a CAF Champions League preliminary round first-leg match.
A statement from Simba CEO Barbara Gonzalez says, “the recruitment of the head coach is underway and shall be announced once the new candidate has been identified.”
The CEO hinted at the possibility of hiring an African coach when she said, “we need qualified African coaches who are committed to a long-term project, not tourists and/plumbers.”
Selemani Matola is the current acting head coach for Simba, with Mohamed Hussein as his assistant.
Matola served as an assistant to Maki and has also served in similar roles since 2018 under Pierre Lenchantre, Patricks Aussems, Sven Vandebroek, Didier Gomez and Pablo Franco Martin.
