Simba SC courting Orlando Pirates striker

Tanzania giants Simba SC are reportedly courting an Orlando Pirates striker ahead of the July/August transfer window.

Simba are already planning for next season, with the current season just four games away from finishing.

Simba have played second fiddle to their crosstown rivals Young Africans, for the second season running.

Yanga wrested the league title from Simba to end their four-year dominance in the 2021/22 season.

Timu ya Wananchi are five points ahead of Simba in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League standings.

Yanga have collected 68 points, only tasting defeat twice this season. One of their losses was at the hands of Simba in the recent Kariakoo Derby.

Wekundu wa Msimbazi beat Yanga 2-0 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium recently.

Nonetheless, Yanga look set to retain the title as Simba have collected 63 points off 26 games.

Simba are looking to strengthen their attack ahead of next season and have reached out to Orlando Pirates for the services of a Bucs forward.

The Dar es Salaam giants are eyeing Ghanaian striker Kwame Peprah, who is on loan at DStv Premiership side Maritzburg United

SIMBA EAGER TO SIGN PEPRAH

“Simba have contacted Pirates enquiring about the availability of Kwame Peprah. They’re looking at signing him for next season,” the source said.

“Simba only have one reliable centre forward at the moment, and it’s Jean Baleke Othos. He is on loan from TP Mazembe. He’s on a one year loan. The other option there is John Bocco, but he’s struggling with injuries. So they need a striker of Kwame’s profile.”

Peprah has struggled for game time in his second season at Pirates. After falling further down the pecking order, Peprah requested a loan move to Maritzburg United during the January transfer window.

The move was granted, but at Maritzburg, he has also found the going tough. He has made eight appearances, only hitting the target once.

“It’s been tough for him here. He’s not hit the ground running as he would have wanted. I doubt he would want to stay here beyond the current season, especially if we get relegated,” a Maritzburg source said.

The 22-year-old joined Pirates from Ghana outfit King Faisal FC on a three-year contract. This was on the back of a memorable season in his native country after scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists in 32 games in the 2020 season.

At Pirates, he enjoyed game time under co-coaches Fadlu Davids and Mandla Ncikazi. Peprah scored nine goals across all competitions for the Buccaneers.

Two of the goals came in the CAF Confederation Cup as they went all the way to the final. Pirates lost to RS Berkane in the final.
