Tau’s teammate injures Al Ahly coach in crazy celebration

Percy Tau’s Al Ahly teammate injured the Egyptian team’s coach Marcel Koller in Tunisia on Sunday.

Koller told Egyptian football website Kingfut that Mohamed Abdelmonem injured him on the foot during the defender’s crazy celebration.

Abdelmonem was celebrating his late goal in the 1-0 win over US Monastir in a CAF Champions League match.

“Mohamed Abdelmonem celebrated like crazy after scoring to the point where he hit me in the foot, and I would have liked to give him a yellow card for that,” Koller is quoted saying.

The defender scored in the 93rd minute with a bullet header to hand the Swiss manager a winning start to his new job.

TOUCH GAME

The former Austria coach described the Champions League round-of-32 game as tough.

“We played a great match and followed my instructions to a great extent,” Koller added.

“It was a tough game against a difficult opponent and in front of their fans. But we are constantly improving and with more work, we will be able to play at the required level.”

Koller replaced Ricardo Soares who was sacked last month barely three months after he replaced South African Pitso Mosimane.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach threw in the towel in June this year to end a 21-month trophy laden spell.

The CAF Champions League round-of-32 first leg win gave Mosimane’s former team an advantage ahead of the reverse fixture.

Al Ahly will host Monastir in the second leg on October 15 2022 in Cairo.

TAU ABSENT

Tau did not travel with Al Ahly squad to Tunisia as he is not fully recovery from an injury.

The Reds hope that the former Mamelodi Sundowns player will be available for selection in the home leg.

Tau helped Al Ahly reach the final of the last edition of the Champions League.

Al Ahly lost the game 2-0 to Wydad Casablanca.

The overall winner between the two teams will proceed to the round-of-16.
