The bold promise that landed Fadlu Davids the Maritzburg job
Maritzburg United look set to unveil Fadlu Davids, and FARPost has established the bold promise that landed him the job.
A source within the corridors of Maritzburg has told this publication that Davids will get down to business next week.
He has made a bold promise ahead of his return to the club. He replaces John Maduka, who had an unfruitful short spell with the Pietermaritzburg outfit.
FARPost has been reliably informed what led to Davids getting the job and his promise to the club’s chairman Farook Kadodia.
According to the insider, he told the club they should not worry about relegation. Instead, they must prepare themselves for the top-eight finish.
“Coach Fadlu told the management that the top-eight finish is something that he will deliver. He told them not to stress about relegation because that will not happen on his watch,” the insider told the FARPost.
FADLU DAVIDS IS FAMILIAR WITH THE CLUB
His familiarity with the club put him ahead of every other candidate for the job. Davids started as a player before moving to assisting coaches and eventually becoming head coach.
Many will remember his team that finished in the top four and reached the Nedbank Cup final in 2019.
The Team of Choice boasted talents like Bandile Shandu, Fortune Makaringe, Richards Ofori, Lebohang Maboe, Rushine De Rueck, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Miguel Timm and Bongokuhle Hlongwane.
After his stint with Maritzburg, he joined Orlando Pirates, where he won the MTN8 and lost CAF Confederation Cup final as a co-coach with Mandla Ncikazi.
He returns to Maritzburg at a difficult time, as they are perched in the basement of the table. Out of 13 matches, they have only won twice.
The team will begin their preparations on Monday, with a month-long plan to change their situation in the league. They intend to make a few signings to beef up their squad.
