AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has revealed an honest admission Brandon Truter made before quitting his job on Wednesday.
The Durban side on Thursday announced the departure of the coach after a string of poor results.
The 1-0 loss at the hands of Richards Bay marked the end of a five-month relationship.
Zungu has since shared Truter’s disclosure to him when notifying him of his intention to resign.
THE ADMISSION
“The results didn’t work in his favour, and he came to me on Wednesday, and he said, ‘you have supported me, but I think I need to accept that maybe this is a task bigger than me. I need to focus on personal matters’.
“I said, ‘let me sleep over it’, and yesterday morning, I woke up and accepted his resignation,” Zungu told FARPost.
He further revealed a request he made to the coach prior to him agreeing to his exit.
“I asked him to go to the team and prepare the team. They have a friendly against the MDC side.
“Post-match training is important. He then communicated with the players after the session,” added Zungu.
He insists Truter never lost his dressing room. The former Richards Bay and Swallows coach started the season off well, winning the opening four matches.
TOUGH RUN
Truter is on record as saying his ambition was to challenge for the league title.
However, in the last five matches, they only managed two draws and lost the other three.
The club is currently searching for a new man to replace Truter, with a tough run of fixtures awaiting them.
Their next fixture is against Orlando Pirates away from home, and then they visit Maritzburg United before hosting Kaizer Chiefs in the return leg of the MTN8.
“There’s a couple of coaches we’re talking to. We should have finalised by the weekend,” he said.
