Thulani Hlatshwayo’s impassioned promise to Gavin Hunt
Newly signed Supersport United defender has shared his delight after reuniting with his former coach Gavin Hunt.
The former Orlando Pirates captain was unveiled by Matsatsantsa on Monday on a one-year-deal with an option to extend for a further year.
‘Tyson’ formed a solid defensive partnership with Buhle Mkhwanazi at the now defunct Bidvest Wits under Hunt who was appointed the new head coach of the Tshwane-based side for his second stint.
The 31-year-old defender made history at Wits after winning their first league title for the club in the 2016/17 Absa Premiership season as it was formerly known.
The ex-Bafana Bafana captain spent the last two seasons with the Buccaneers where he helped them clinch the MTN8 in his first season before finding the going tough.
He only managed ten appearances in the DStv Premiership for the Soweto giants.
“I feel good to reunite with coach Gavin, I know what kind of personality he is and for me to revive myself and I think SuperSport was the best team on the table for me,” said Hlatshwayo.
The Soweto-born defender also shed light on the beautiful relationship he has with four-time league title winning coach.
“Obviously we know one another, we won trophies together at Wits and I know what type character he is.
“He wants more, he wants everything, he wants the character and I’m aware with youngsters at SuperSport and the club is a development team, with everything I’ve learned with Gavin I can be able to share with the guys and tell them what kind of person he is and be able to share my experience with them and be a role model to the youngsters,” added the former Ajax Cape Town skipper.
Hlatshwayo will be looking to bring his career back on track in the upcoming season with Matsatsantsa after falling down the pecking order at Bucs under the guidance of co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids.
