Arrows coach Vilakazi sends message to naysayers

Golden Arrows co-coach Vusi Vilakazi has sent a message to naysayers, saying he does not have the luxury of time to entertain them.

Vilakazi and Mabhuti Khenyeza were handed the coaching reins at Arrows following the departure of Lehlohonolo Seema, despite their lack of experience.

On their mission to take the club to another level in the DStv Premiership, they have been met with many doubters.

The fact that Abafana Besithende did not start their season very well, as they collected two points in four games, also emboldened their critics.

POOR START

They lost to Richards Bay FC and Sekhukhune before drawing against Marumo Gallants and TS Galaxy in their opening encounters of the 2022/23 season.

However, they quietly bounced back, beating an AmaZulu side that was enjoying form under Brandon Truter. That seemed to be the turning point.

Since then, they have only lost once in their past five games, which came against Mamelodi Sundowns.

In the last five games, they have scored 10 goals, with a 4-0 win over Swallows their biggest.

The result practically sent Dylan Kerr packing as Swallows fired him after that heavy defeat.

“We’re only focusing on doing well as a team, not on what other people say,” Vilakazi said recently.

“What people think about us, we can’t control. People in football have their own opinions, and we can’t focus on that.”

He added that they understood their mandate and focused solely on it.

“We understand our responsibility as coaches.

“We want to make Golden Arrows a better team and try to make sure we succeed in our mission. To make this club better.”

The following five games for Arrows are set to give them another real test.

They face a tough Orlando Pirates on Tuesday and two KZN derbies against Royal AM and Maritzburg United before closing a year with Kaizer Chiefs on New Year’s Eve.
