What Namibia coach said about Sekhukhune after international friendly
Namibia coach Collin Benjamin has saluted Sekhukhune United for giving the Brave Warriors a timely reality check in a warm-up match for the Cosafa Cup.
Benjamin said this in a post-match interview after Namibia played out to a 1-1 draw with Sekhukhune in a friendly in Pretoria on Friday.
“Very tough opponents; physical, playing fast and really good on the break, but we could handle it. We went into the lead through a set-piece, and that actually made me happy that we are developing a sense of danger for the opponents through a set-piece. And then we conceded a goal due to a bit of miscommunication in the last line of defence,” he said.
The former Brave Warriors midfielder said Sekhukhune’s tough and physical style of play was the sort of test Namibia needed before lining up against Madagascar in the Cosafa Cup quarterfinal on Tuesday.
“We worked a lot on our defensive shape and basically, transitions into offence, and this made us have a few impressions on possible combinations and in that regard, we are happy that we played a friendly against Sekhukhune,” the ex-Hamburger player said.
The game also offered Sekhukhune’s new coach Kaitano Tembo an opportunity to fine-tune for the forthcoming DStv Premiership season.
Sekhukhune have signed Thamsanqa Masiya, Lesego Sebetlela, Trésor Yamba Yamba, Wonderboy Makhubu, Badra Sangaré, Katlego Mkhabela and Daniel Cardoso as part of the process of replacing the 14 they released weeks ago.
Orlando Pirates duo of Linda Mntambo and Tshegofatso Mabasa and Abednigo Mosiatlhaga from Cape Town Spurs also joined the club.
