Why Percy Tau missed Ahly’s first post-Mosimane match

Al Ahly started life without Pitso Mosimane in earnest, beating Eastern Company 4-1 in the Egyptian League on Wednesday night at the Al Salam Stadium.

Ahly got its goals through Hussien El Shahat, Taher Mohamed Taher, Ahmed Abdelkader and Walid Soliman.

But Percy Tau was a notable absentee from the team, raising speculation that he was being frozen out following the departure of Mosimane.

However, FARPost has since gathered that the Bafana Bafana attacker flew back to Cairo on Wednesday after returning home with the national team.

Tau played for Bafana against Morocco in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and would have featured against Zimbabwe on the 13th of June, but the match was cancelled due to the Fifa ban.

Ahly begins preparations for Sunday’s derby against Zamalek, with Tau set to participate. It remains to be seen whether he will still get playing chances.

“Al Ahly players will start preparations for the Cairo Derby against Zamalek on Thursday at El Tetsh Stadium,” the club said on its website.

Samy Komsan, the team’s interim manager, said the group would enter a closed training camp on Friday to prepare for Sunday’s match.
