Why Anderlecht return is unlikely for Percy Tau

Following Pitso Mosimane’s departure from Al Ahly, Percy Tau’s future has been subject to speculation. The former Bafana Bafana coach signed the 28-year-old during his time in Egypt.

Tau has two years left on his contract after joining the Cairo giants from English Premiership side Brighton & Hove Albion last year in August.

However, his performances have divided opinion in the North African country, with some pundits questioning his mettle to play for the Club of the Century.

In 28 matches, he has scored eight goals and assisted a further six. His injury woes have not helped matters, as he is currently sidelined by a quadriceps tear.

Reports from Belgium have linked the Bafana Bafana talisman with a return to his former club Anderlecht.

According to www.voetbalbelgie.be, the Belgian giants are looking to sign Fabio Silva from English side Wolverhampton as well as Tau.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star had stints with Union, Club Brugge and Anderlecht in Belgium before completing his move to England.

He started off well at Anderlecht, scoring four goals in 11 matches, before switching to England.

However, indications are that the club has several options in attack and may not need the South African. They have 21-year-old Yari Verschaeren, Israeli winger Lior Refaelov and 20-year-old Anouar Ait El Hadj.

The club’s manager Felice Mazzu has several other options, and Voetbal reports that: “A return to RSCA does not seem in order.”

The Witbank-born star won the Caf Champions League title in 2016 with Mamelodi Sundowns under the tutelage of Mosimane. Ahly had to tap deep into their pockets to reunite him with the three-time African club champion Mosimane. They paid in the region of R32 million [about €1.9 million] to lure him from the English Premier League side.
