Rushine De Reuck outlines ambitions for new season

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rushine De Reuck has outlined his ambitions for the new DStv Premiership season set to get underway on Friday.

De Reuck, who joined Sundowns in the 2020/21 January transfer window from Maritzburg United has expressed his desire to remain injury free in the upcoming campaign. The Bafana Bafana international was out of action for several months last season, only making only make 16 appearances in the league.

“My goal this season is to stay injury free, I know now there’s a lot of work that I need to do on my side, like strengthening to stay injury free and always be available for selection. I know that if I can get my momentum I can do really well for the team and hopefully, we can go all the way and win the Champions League, that’s the most important goal for us as a team,” De Rueck told the club’ official website.

The Chloorkop-based side had to play with a make-shift defence, deploying Devine Lunga who returned to Golden Arrows on a season long-loan as a left-footed centre-back.

The 26-year-old hard-tackler broke into the scene with the Team of Choice during the 2017/18 season and established himself as one of the top players which saw him scoop the Defender of the Season award in the 2019/20 season before joining the Brazilian on a five-year deal.

Sundowns enjoyed a reach vein on form in the previous campaign which saw them claim all the silverware on offer locally, the 2016 CAF Champions League winners have been falling short in the round of 16 in the continental football.

The Tshwane-based outfit will be looking to improve on that after welcoming new faces, namely, SuperSport United duo Ronwen Williams and Sipho Mbule, Marcelo Allende, Abdelmounaim Boutouil, and Ethiopian international Abubeker Nasir Ahmed who it remains unclear if he’ll be sent out on loan or remain with the club.

Mamelodi Sundowns kick start the 2022/23 season against Cape Town City on Friday, 5th of August at Cape Town Stadium, kick is at 19:30
