Marumo Gallants distances themselves from Harris Chueu’s remarks

Marumo Gallants has distanced itself from remarks made by team technical director Harris Chueu on SAFM SportOn on Monday evening.

This comes after the drama that unfolded over the weekend regarding coach Romain Folz’s absence from their Sunday’s 1-all draw league fixture against Swallows FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

According to weekend reports, the 32-year-old mentor tendered his resignation before the game, but the club chairman insists that Folz is still part of the technical team, with “internal discussions underway.”

“With assurances to the club’s partners and supporters, the matter will be resolved in a manner conducive to the best interests of the team.

“The club will address all questions at a formal press briefing planned for the end of this week,” read Marumo’s statement.

The club technical director accused Folz of changing things at the team without following proper procedures.

“People can say whatever they want to say because they want to look good. The first thing Folz did when he was appointed, he started talking to players before even being introduced,” lamented Chueu.

“When he finally came to South Africa, he ignored me. He even changed some things we were doing in the team. He then told the chairman that he doesn’t want me there, and I was sidelined from the team. I wasn’t even travelling. I was just a spectator.

“I wanted to work closely with him because I know the players and where they come from. This is what happens at other Premiership clubs. But he didn’t want to listen. I don’t want to sound otherwise, but there’s a problem with people that come from overseas. They don’t respect us.

“I know these players. Most of them were with teams that were relegated or struggled, the Ndlondlo’s, Ngema. I know how to work with these players, and they needed guidance. Some of them needed to be taught the basics. But Romain didn’t want me.”

Chueu further stated that he only found out on Saturday night about the problems that are ongoing within the club when he was called.

“All these times I wasn’t there. And I had told the owner about this boy. He was 31 years when he came. There’s nothing wrong with being young. We can learn from you. But you must also be willing to learn too,” Chueu added.

“How can someone who just qualified to be a pilot fly without supervision.”
