Why former SuperSport’s Tony Tsabedze is retiring from football

Former SuperSport United winger Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze has revealed that he will officially hang up his boots at the end of the upcoming season.

Tsabedze is currently in the books of eSwatini giants Mbabane Swallows where he is also the team captain.

The 37-year-old spent eight seasons in the South African Premier Division playing for clubs such as
Silver Stars, SuperSport United, Maritzburg United and Santos. He has also featured for Sihlangu Semnikati 68 times.

Speaking exclusively to FARPost in Mbabane, eSwatini, Tsabedze explained his decision to call it quits at the end of the 2022/23 season.

“I think I have done enough and I wouldn’t be doing justice to myself if I say I want more,” Tsabedze told FARPost.

“I have played for the national team, I have played at the highest level here in Swaziland. I have played at the highest level in South Africa so I think it’s time for me to hang my boots.

“My legs are still pushing me, I am still playing, I am still feeling good. But that is the main problem because the legs are saying you can go on but my heart says somehow so that’s the reason,” he said.

“It’s not easy to say I am retiring but it’s football, it’s something that you like. It’s not something like I am being forced to do.”

On his future plans, Tsabedze says he still wants to remain involved in the beautiful game.

“I want to stay in football. Be it administration or coaching but I want to stay in football. But I was looking at the opportunities coaching wise and administrative. In fact I have a diploma in Human Resources in business leadership so in that way I think I am sorted but I want to stay in football.”

Tsabedze has been playing his football in eSwatini since 2011 when he left Santos. He is currently based in Mbabane, eSwatini.
