Mosimane wades into Real Madrid’s Vinicius racism row

Former Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has waded into the racism controversy surrounding Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior.

Mosimane was reacting to Vinicius’ cocky celebration after scoring in the game against Mallorca the previous weekend.

The celebration did not go down well with Spanish agent Pedro Bravo who told the Brazilian forward Vinicius to stop his ‘monkey celebration.’

The Spanish Agents Association president eventually apologized to the player for the misuse of such ‘monkey’ remarks.

This prompted PSG’s Brazilian star Neymar then separately the former Mamelodi Sundowns to support Vinicius’ stance to continue his usual goal dance.

MOSIMANE SHARES HIS VIEWS

“Dance @vinijr, and bravo you took a stand against racism and xenophobia in football,” Mosimane tweeted.

“We need to teach some people a lesson that dignity is more valuable than money and the title especially when the colour of the skin blindfolds the quality of work.”

The ex-SuperSport United coach has always been vocal against racism in football, wondering why Africans cant get coaching jobs in Europe.

He said recently that it was clear Europe is not ready to welcome African coaches.

Mosimane said it was unthinkable that inexperienced Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard got coaching jobs at Derby and Chelsea.

The former Bafana Bafana handler is on a sabbatical after resigning from Al Ahly in June this year.

He threw in the towel after the 2-0 loss to Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League final.

Al Ahly management admitted that Mosimane was targeted by some of the club’s legends leading to his exit.

It was believed that Mosimane was a victim of racism after becoming the first black African to manage Al Ahly.

Mosimane was replaced by Portuguese coach Ricardo Soares who, too, has lost his job last month after a third-place finish in the Egyptian Premier League.

Swiss Michel Koller is now in charge of the former CAF Champions League winners.
