Mngqithi takes swipe at Broos: ‘His comments are all over’
Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has taken a swipe at Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos saying “his comments are all over the place”.
Since taking over the Bafana job last year, the Belgian has complained about a litany of issues.
From SAFA’s administrative blunders to the quality of local players, he has publicly expressed his displeasure.
In his latest tirade, he grumbled that he was being blocked from meeting PSL coaches.
A visibly irritated Broos said he would seek a meeting with topflight coaches one last time after a few fruitless attempts.
GOOD POOL
However, Mngqithi believes there are several other ways to meet coaches.
“I’d not want to comment much about Hugo Broos. It’s a free country. You can say whatever you want to say.
“The only thing that is very important is, it gives you a little license to say whatever you want to say if you’re winning matches.
“If you’re not winning, there’ll always be question marks,” Mngqithi told the media.
Responding to the issue of some PSL players not being good enough for international football, he said there was a vast pool to pick from.
“There’s a very good pool of players you can choose from.
“But if you’re choosing whomever you’re choosing, and you’re not winning and say they’re not good enough, maybe the fingers you’re pointing might be pointing your direction.
“If you’re winning matches, we’re always willing to listen to any coach.
It shows exactly what he’s trying to do.”
CHLOORKOP DOOR OPEN
He reiterated that the door was open for the coach to come and engage with them.
“We’ve never closed doors for the national team coach. He’s got the freedom to come to Chloorkop.
“He can call me anytime. It would be nice to know what he sees because his comments have always been all over.
“It’s always nice to talk in person and be able to iron out issues.”
The former Golden Arrows coach, in jest, said, “maybe must we phone home to ask for a meeting.”
“He’s forever complaining that he has not met the coaches, and I’d like to know who is stopping him.
“We’re very open to meeting the national team coach so we can hear what he has to say about our football,” he concluded.
