Mason Greenwood arrested again
Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been arrested again, this time around over an alleged breach of his bail conditions.
Greenwood was first held in January over the alleged rape and assault of a young woman after images and videos were posted online.
He was also questioned on suspicion of making threats to kill.
“Greater Manchester Police are aware of an allegation regarding a 21-year-old man breaching his bail conditions and an arrest has been made on Saturday 15 October 2022,” a police spokesman said on Saturday.
“Enquiries are ongoing at this time.”
Within hours of the allegations surfacing online at the beginning of the year, the 21-year-old was suspended from playing or training with the Old Trafford club.
MASON GREENWOOD LOST ENDORSEMENTS
Nike suspended and later terminated its sponsorship deal with Greenwood. Electronic Arts confirmed his removal from active squads on its FIFA 22 game.
He spent three nights in custody after he was arrested at his home in Bowdon, Greater Manchester.
He was originally due to answer his bail on 30 April but the decision was pushed back after a court hearing in June.
The England international remains suspended by United but still receives his £75,000-a-week salary pending the outcome of any criminal proceedings.
The club were previously forced to release a statement confirming there has been no change to Greenwood’s status.
“We removed his profile from the club app soon after he was removed from the squad in January.
“This was in order to remove Mason from interactive elements of the app, such as team predictions etc,” the statement from United read.
Greenwood’s promising domestic and international career remains in jeopardy.
CAREER ON THE LINE
He last played for the Red Devils on 22 January.
The player joined United aged just six and rose through the ranks to land himself a regular spot on the first team.
In 2019, he became the youngest footballer to play for the club in the Champions League when he took to the pitch aged just 17.
