The secret behind Gabadinho Mhango’s resurgence
Former Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango in blistering form since joining AmaZulu, has opened up about what new coach Romain Folz has introduced at the KwaZulu-Natal side.
In an interview with FARPost, Mhango has revealed the secret behind his impressive start to his AmaZulu career.
Mhango said freedom to play football was behind his peak in form at AmaZulu after leaving Pirates last season.
“The most important thing is to have the freedom to play football, as that is my job,” he said.
“You have to be happy to enjoy what you are doing, and that is the most important thing.”
The Malawian spent a frustrating season at Pirates last campaign when he rarely played and scored three goals all season.
AMAZULU FREE ENVIRONMENT
Mhango said he was happy to work under AmaZulu’s new coach Folz.
“The coach encourages all of us to keep on working hard. When a team believes in you, you will always do your best to help the team. Remember, the team comes first,” he said.
Mhango also hinted at the impact that Usuthu army of supporters have had on the team and his career.
“For them coming in large numbers makes them the 12th player. They leave their families to support us, and the only way for us to reward them for the money they spend to watch our matches is by winning,” he said.
AMAZULU TOP SCORER
Statistics show that Mhango is AmaZulu’s overall leading scorer this far.
He has five goals across all competitions going into the DStv Premiership break.
Four of Mhango’s goals came from the DStv Premiership with one being from the MTN8
The Malawian’s goal in one-all draw with Kaizer Chiefs steered the Durban-based side to the MTN8 final, which they eventually lost 1-0 to Pirates.
The Flames striker’s overall tally this season has come from 13 games in all competitions.
Mhango started this season on fire, netting in three consecutive games against SuperSport United, Cape Town City and Swallows.

The 30-year-old has scored 64 goals in 213 games since 2013 when he first arrived in South Africa to sign for Bloemfontein Celtic.
AmaZulu said the only player who has come closer to Mhango is striker partner Augustine Kwem.
