Themba Zwane weighs in on Kasi football trend
Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane has explained why it is no longer easy for professional players to play in the Festive Kasi tournament unlike in previous years.
Some of the players from Premier Soccer League clubs still participate in township tournaments despite moist clubs not permitting them to.
FARPost reported this week that Baroka fired Nkosinathi Ononogbu for playing in a similar tournament in Tembisa. It was also not the first time that the player faced the axe for the same reasons.
KASI TOURNAMENTS A NO FOR THEMBA ZWANE
When asked what his thoughts were on the trend, Themba Zwane said it’s different when you are a Mamelodi Sundowns player.
“I don’t play in Kasi tournaments because of the rules by my team (Mamelodi Sundowns),” said Zwane.
“It’s unlike the old days when you get players to come here and play. In the old days we had opportunities to play with players like [Katlego] Killer Mphela because they used to allow them at SuperSport United to come and play but now it’s different because if you play, they will fine you.”
“For me personally, because I play at Sundowns and there are a lot of games so I prefer to rest.”
PHILLY’S GAMES LAUNCHED
Zwane was speaking at the official launch kasi festive season football tournament Philly’s Games. The 2022 games are set to take place between 19 December 2022 and 2 January 2023 in Tembisa.
“It’s very important for aspiring professionals to showcase their talents. What I can say is that Philly’s Games opened doors for me.
“When Sundowns legend Alex Bapela told me that he scouted me here at the Philly’s Games, that’s when I realised the impact of the games and how it is important for aspiring players to take it seriously.”
