‘I’m happy I left Sundowns’: George Maluleka

AmaZulu midfielder George Maluleka has said his piece on his torrid stint at DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 33-year-old spent two seasons at Chloorkop having joined them 2020 as a free agent after his contract at Kaizer Chiefs expired.

‘Mido’, as he is widely known in football circles, went through a rough patch, not getting much game time as he expected when he inked the deal with Bafana Ba Style.

Maluleka featured in 19 games and rattled the back of the net on one occasion across all competitions in the Brazilians shirt.

At the end of the previous campaign, the Tshwane giants opted not to take up the option to extend the Tembisa-born midfielder’s contract.

Maluleka has insisted that he had an enjoyable stay at Sundowns, however, admitted that he was happy that he left the club.

MALULEKA OPENS UP ON HIS STAY AT DOWNS

“I had a good time at Downs,” Maluleka told the media at the launch of Philly’s games.

“Not everything will go smoothly in your career, I don’t think Sundowns was very bad as people make it out to be.

“But whenever I played, I did well. I didn’t play much but it’s okay.

“I’m very happy I went to Sundowns, I’m happy I left, I’m happy I’m at AmaZulu and I’m happy I’m playing again.

“I’m looking good, I feel good.”

MALULEKA’S RISE AT AMAZULU

When the current season began, Usuthu acquired Maluleka’s services on a two-year deal and an option to extend for a further year.

He swiftly settled at the club and seems to have regained confidence.

Meanwhile, the former SuperSport United man has made 16 appearances in all competitions, missing only one game at the Durban-based club.
