Marumo Gallants ordered to pay former coach for unfair dismissal

DStv Premiership side Marumo Gallants have lost a case against one of their former employees.

Mpho Maleka, a former assistant coach at Gallants, took the club to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) for unfair dismissal.

This comes after Maleka was shown the door earlier this season. Maleka had been placed on suspension while he was an assistant coach to Romain Folz.

Gallants later on terminated Maleka’s services but the former Moroka Swallows and Black Aces striker challenged that decision.

This publication has been reliably informed that the PSL DRC ruled in favour of the ex-striker last week.

Gallants were ordered to compensate Maleka his salary for at least until March 2023.

Maleka is not the only ex-member of the club to take the club to the PSL DRC.

Former coach Dylan Kerr had a case with Gallants following a breach of his contract. Kerr was entitled to a certain amount of their 2020 Nedbank Cup triumph, something the club failed to honour.

Former goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo also took the club to the PSL after issues with his signing on fee. Mhlongo later parted ways with the club.

Midfielder Miguel Timm was reportedly also in dispute with the club over his signing on fees, a case that allegedly escalated to the PSL DRC.

MARUMO GALLANTS MOVE ON HOLD?

Meanwhile, FARPost can confirm that there has been an official offer to purchase the club from an unnamed Mangaung businessman.

But the deal seems to have stalled due to the issue of finance. This publication has gathered that the club owner is keen on relocating to another Province if the right deal comes.

As it stands, the players were informed to serve notices at their places of residence in Polokwane and look for accommodation in Centurion, Pretoria.

A move that looks like it is still in the pipeline.

It is believed the club are opting to play their home matches at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg until the finalisation of their move to Free State.
