AmaTuks sign two former Sundowns stars

AmaTuks have completed the signing of two former Mamelodi Sundowns stars ahead of the resumption of the second-tier League next year in January.

The University of Pretoria (AmaTuks) have had a promising start to the 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

However they have struggled to find a consistent goal scoring formula.

And with January transfer window looming large, AmaTuks have moved swiftly to beef up their squad with Rodney Ramagalela and Thokozani Sekotlong.

The Pretoria-based side signed the former Sundowns duo on a free transfer.

Ramagalela has been a free agent since parting company with Black Leopards at the end of 2020/21 season.

WHY AMATUKS SIGNED THE FORMER SUNDOWNS DUO

“We went into the market to look for players who can add value in the team, a source within the AmaTuks camp reliably informed FARPost.

“Thokozani Sekotlong is one of the players, who has been signed as he has been training with the team for some time now.

“Sekotlong comes with a wealth of experience.

“We all know that he played for number of teams in the PSL, so that’s why we decided to sign him.

“Another player that is signed is Rodney Ramagalela.

“The coach and the technical team were not pleased with the striking department in the first round of the season.

“So the decision to sign Ramagalela was mainly about wanting to improve our chances of scoring goals more consistently,” added the source.

The University of Pretoria will be looking to intensify their push for automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership.

The Tshwane-based outfit marginally missed out on promotion to the top flight after finishing as runners-up behind Richards Bay, who were crowned second tier champions in the 2021/22 campaign.

In the current season, AmaTuks have won four games, drawn six while losing only two times after 12 games played.

They currently in sixth place on the log standings with 18 points.

The January transfer window is opening in less than 20 days and it remains to be seen whether AmaTuks will close their cheque book or make more signings.

The Tlisane Motaung-coached team will return to league action against Baroka on the 14th of January at Tuks Stadium.

That match is scheduled to kickoff at 15:30.
