‘You’ve to accept if the player doesn’t want’: Motaung on Njabulo Blom

Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung says the club will accept Njabulo Blom’s decision if he doesn’t want to be part of the club anymore.

This comes after the two parties are battling to agree on a new deal. The Bafana Bafana midfielder is out of contract in June 2023. In January, he will be free to sign a pre-contract with another club.

PSL clubs, like SuperSport United, are reportedly interested in Blom’s services if he doesn’t sign a new contract with Amakhosi.

WHY CHIEFS WILL ACCEPT NJABULO BLOM’S DECISION

Njabulo Blom has been at the club since a young age under coach Arthur Zwane. The duo worked together at the Chiefs development side.

“You’ve to accept if the player doesn’t want to be with you. If the player wants to learn and explore the world. But for us, our home-grown talent is what we’re proud of,” Motaung told the media.

“I will be sad to lose Njabulo Blom. If we lose him, it won’t be without an effort from us. Kaizer Chiefs have worked very hard behind the scenes to make sure he’s part of our team.

“I think it will be a sad one. We don’t see him as a product of the club but as part of Chiefs’ family for a long time.”

Motaung further stated what has changed in football which makes negotiating deals with players become so difficult these days.

REALISTIC DEMANDS

“The change is the structure and the way deals are done. Agents come in, and sometimes they don’t understand the business side of the deal. Negotiations have been ongoing. We, Chiefs people, are optimistic and realistic.

“I think we need to have realistic demands and growth projections. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll understand. Maybe there wasn’t for a long term,” she added.

The 22-year-old has also proved to be an asset for Zwane this season. So far this season, Blom has made 13 appearances in all competitions.
