Former Zimbabwe International Edmore Chirambadare is still hurt by how Kaizer Chiefs showed him the exit door.
The 30-year-old Edmore Chirambadare had his contract terminated by the DStv Premiership side Chiefs in 2018, then with Steve Komphela as the team’s head coach.
He was cut into the wilderness, though Edmore Chirambadare felt there was more to offer, especially after he was voted Kaizer Chiefs’ Most Improved Player in the 2016/17 season.
Chirambadare describes the Kaizer Chiefs exit, contract termination, as the worst phase of his career in South Africa.
GRATEFUL BUT HURT
“It’s when I was told that they are terminating my contract but am grateful for the opportunity that Kaizer Chiefs gave me, and I always wish them the best,” Chirambadare told FARPost.
“I was told that I’m not playing, so we have to terminate the contract. Just like that. That was hurtful and probably the worst part of my there, and I never saw it coming.”
Chirambadare joined the Soweto giants in July 2016 following a memorable 2015 season in Zimbabwe, where he helped Chicken Inn win their only Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title.
That was also followed by his impressive performances in the CAF Champions League, particularly when Chicken Inn played against a star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns side, which had the likes of Khama Billiat and Percy Tau.
It is that performance which attracted Kaizer Chiefs as they would also sign Mitchel Katsvairo and Teenage Hadebe from the same team.
Chirambadare and Katsvairo, however, failed to last the distance in the Glamour boys’ ranks.
“Of course, the experience is valuable until today; I got to interact with top South African players like Tshabalala [Siphiwe] and others,” he added.
“I got more recognition back home because of the time I spent at Chiefs. I could have given more if they afforded me, but being a player, there is always a time to move on with high hopes.”
The left winger has been nomadic since parting ways with Amakhosi.
He has played in the Motsepe Foundation Championship for Pretoria Callies, Maccabi, and Real Kings and is currently in Venda Football Academy’s books.
In Chiefs colours, Chirambadare featured in 27 matches in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing a single assist.
