Orlando Pirates slapped with fine by the PSL
The Soweto giants were given a R 50 000 fine of which half is suspended
Orlando Pirates have been slapped with a fine by the PSL for unlawfully watering the pitch in Soweto.
The act of watering the pitch transpired before Pirate’s 3-1 win against Golden Arrows in a DStv Premiership at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, 14 January.
ORLANDO PIRATES PLEAD GUILTY
Pirates appeared before the PSL DC on Friday and pleaded guilty of the offense.
They were given a R 50 000 fine of which half is suspended, as confirmed by PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club appeared before the DC to answer to charges of unlawfully watering the pitch contrary to the regulations in a match between themselves and Golden Arrows,” said Majavu.
“They pleaded guilty and they were subsequently convicted.
“In the result they were fined a monetary amount of R 50 000, half of which is suspended for a period of 12 months on condition that during the period of suspension they are not found guilty of the same offense.
“The balance of the other R 25 000 is payable effectively together with a cost order. “
THE SOWETO GIANTS AIMING TO CONTINUE FIME FORM
The Buccaneers are back in action on Saturday, 28 January as they they travel to Rustenburg to face Marumo Gallants at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
Pirates are enjoying a decent run of form as they have been won back-to-back games against Arrows and hammered Stellenbosch 4-1 in their most recent game at Orlando.
“We’re focusing only on what we have to do, which is our job on the field. We are more than ready to face Gallants,” said Pirates first assistant coach Sergio Almenara.
“The training sessions were good and preparations went well, and we are ready.”
The Soweto giants are fourth on the log standings with 25 points, 24 behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
