Venda Football Academy sign Malawi top scorer Babatunde Adepoju

Malawi league top scorer, Babatunde Adepoju, has completed his transfer from Nyasa Big Bullets to Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda Football Academy.

Nyasa Big Bullets have confirmed that Babatunde Adepoju was successful during trials with Venda Football Academy. The Nigerian had been on trial for two weeks.

WHAT BULLETS SAID ON BABATUNDE ADEPOJU’S TRANSFER TO VENDA FOOTBALL ACADEMY

“The 27-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the South African National First Division side,” a statement from Bullets reads.

“The club thanks Baba for the memories and wishes him and his family well for the future.”

Babatunde Adepoju spent a one-and-a-half-year spell with the Malawi TNM Super League champions.

Malawi’s The Nation newspaper reports that Bullets have sold Babatunde Adepoju at R833,000.

FARPost was unable to verify with Venda Football Academy the transfer fee independently.

HOW THE NIGERIAN STRIKER TOOK MALAWI BY STORM

Babatunde Adepoju took the just-ended TNM Super League season by storm after scoring 18 league goals.

The Nigerian played a pivotal role in ensuring that Bullets retained the Super League title for the fourth consecutive season.

Adepoju also seized the 2022 FDH Bank Cup Golden Boot. He won a similar crown for the 2021 Airtel Top 8.

The 27-year-old was born in Lagos but relocated to Malawi 10 years ago.

He came to Lilongwe as an amateur footballer and signed for Master Security FC. Adepoju proved his wealth with his ability to take on defenders as a false striker.

The Nigerian propelled the modest Master Security to the Carlsberg Cup.

Masters beat fancied Mighty Mukuru Wanderers on post-match penalties in 2018.

Eventually, Wanderers snatched the Nigerian to the Lali Lubani Road in Blantyre in 2019.

He spent barely two seasons with Wanderers before their sworn rivals, Bullets, signed him in 2021.

Venda Academy, who are currently fourth from the bottom of the log table, surely needs such a shooter.
