Nkosinathi Sibisi reveals one important element Pirates has improved on

Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has revealed one element the team has improved on in the remaining matches of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

In the first round of the league matches, the Jose Riveiro-coached side were creating a lot of goal scoring opportunities, however they were failing to find the back of the net.

In their first 15 matches, Pirates were struggling to score, only registering 10 goals.

Pirates have been clinical and ruthless in the final third in the second round. They have netted nine goals in three matches.

The good scoring form helped the club register three wins in a row. As a result, the Soweto giants climbed up to fourth in the log standings.

The reason for the improvement and consistency in front of goal may be because of the appointment of striker coach Scott Chickelday.

ONE ELEMENT PIRATES HAS IMPROVED ON

Sibisi revealed his happiness that the club’s forwards are finally taking their chances and scoring goals for the club.

“We happy for our forward players; they are doing an immense show converting those chances,” said Sibisi.

“They [forwards] have been our killer zeal in the first round of the season, but now we getting them [goals]. I’m glad we finally getting that consistency.”

SUNDOWNS SHOWDOWN

Sibisi and teammates will be hoping to continue with their fine form in front of goal when they face history making Mamelodi Sundowns side on 4 February.

The rivals will be facing each other for the fifth time this season.

The two giants of SA football drew 0-0 in the MTN8 semi-final first leg. Pirates then thrashed Masandawana 3-0 in the second leg.

Sundowns later claimed two victories over Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup final and the league, winning 4-0 and 2-0, respectively.

The Tshwane giants are on a 14-match winning streak, whilst the Soweto side are chasing their fourth straight victory.

Kickoff at Orlando Stadium is 3:30pm.
