SuperSport back to winning ways, Marumo revive survival hopes 

SuperSport United returned to their winning ways following a 2-0 win against Cape Town City at Lucas Moripe on Saturday. 

It was a first win in five matches for SuperSport United who last won on 7 January. 

In form versatile player Thapelo Maseko opened the scoring for the home side in the 18th minute. The victory was sealed through an own goal by Darwin Gonzalez during the referee’s optional time. 

SUPERSPORT UNITED REMAIN IN SECOND POSITION 

Despite the win, United are still 23 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Masandawana extended their lead at the top of the table after a 1-0 win against rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday. 

Cape Town City on the other hand have dropped to 10th position on the log with 23 points from 19 matches. Their next league match is at home to Swallows on 19 February. 

MARUMO OUTSMART SEKHUKHUNE IN RUSTENBURG 

Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants revived their survival hopes folliwung a 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg on Saturday.

Lucky Mohomi and Letsie Koapeng scored the goals for the troubled side. 

It is Gallant’s first win in nine matches. They still remain at the bottom of the log with 18 points from 21 matches. Marumo came into the match with changes in their technical team setup. Raymond Mdaka is standing in as interim coach following the special leave of head coach Dan Malesela.

Marumo’s next few games include some tough encounters against the likes of TS Galaxy, Cape Town City, Royal AM and Kaizer Chiefs.

Before resuming with league action, Marumo will face Magesi in the Nedbank Cup last 32 match in Rustenburg.

Sekhukhune United have also dropped in the DStv Premiership standings to seventh place following the defeat.
