Denis Onyango reveals how Sundowns plan to dominate Al Ahly in Cairo

"The pressure starts right from the airport to the hotel, training and to the stadium."

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango has revealed how the Tshwane giants plan to dominate Al Ahly in a CAF Champions League Group B encounter on Saturday, 25 February in Cairo.

The eagerly-awaited mouthwatering showdown will be played at Al Salam Stadium, with the kick-off set for 21:00 [SA time].

Denis Onyango admits that the Al Ahly game will be Mamelodi Sundowns’ most significant test of the Champions League as they look to maintain their good run of form.

The Tshwane giants have won their first two matches in the Champions League group stage.

Onyango said he expects a “tough encounter” as the DStv Premiership defending champions battle it out with Al Ahly in a clash deemed one of the biggest African derbies.

To attest to what the Sundowns goal-minder is saying, the tickets for the match were sold out in just 15 minutes.

“Playing Al Ahly especially away from home is always a tough encounter. The pressure starts right from the airport to the hotel, training and to the stadium,” said Onyango.

The 37-year-old goalie also warned his side of the danger of their opponents, as they still have their eyes focused on the job in hand.

“Al Ahly is one of the powerhouses in the African football. For us, we need to stay focused on our game,” he explained.

He went on to say that these kinds of big matches must be approached with so much focus to get fruitful results.

DENIS ONYANGO GUNNING FOR MAXIMUM POINTS

The former SuperSport United goalie reckons that they will do whatever it takes to get maximum points. A win will increase their chances of qualifying for the quarterfinals.

“We will try to win if possible. When we win we get to nine points and it gives us one step closer to the quarterfinals,” added Onyango.

As things stand, the Brazilians currently sit top of Group B with six points from two outings.
