Shaun Bartlett makes bold prediction on Benni McCarthy’s future

Bafana Bafana legend Shaun Bartlett has made a bold prediction on the future of his former national teammate Benni McCarthy.

McCarthy is part of Erik Ten Hag’s support staff as a striker coach and has received plaudits for his role.

Bartlett, who is three goals behind McCarthy in the all-time top goal scorer charts, played alongside the former Porto striker at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.

SHAUN BARTLETT NOT SURPRISED BY BENNI MCCARTHY SUCCESS

The 50-year-old believes his fellow Cape Town born is destined for greater things as a coach in Europe.

“It’s not a surprise. Benni has always been someone with high aspirations as a player and the same thing he has now as a coach,” Bartlett told FARPost.

“You could see when he started with Cape Town City that he did something different there and he deserves to be where he is at this moment. I am pretty sure he will get a head coach or manager’s job in England soon.

BENNI SHOULD CONTINUE TO LEARN FROM ERIK TEN HAG

“He has the qualifications and learning as much as he can from Erik Ten Hag and as coaches, that’s the only thing we can do. We need to be better than the day before and evolve with the game,” he added.

Bartlett is the current head coach at Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town Spurs. His side is also in contention for promotion to the DStv Premiership next season.

Spurs are second on the log, tired on 43 points with log leaders Polokwane City. There are nine games to go before the season ends in what promises to be an exciting battle for promotion.
