Kobamelo Kodisang marks Bafana call-up with 10th goal of the season

Buoyed by his inclusion in the latest Bafana Bafana squad, Kobamelo Kodisang continued his fine form in Portugal.

The 23-year-old winger was on the scoresheet once again for the second match running. This was in his side, Moreirense’s 3-1 win over Penafiel on Friday night.

The Platinum Stars development product is enjoying a rich vein of form in the Portuguese second division. He is currently on loan from Braga. Indications are that Moreirense would want to make the deal permanent if they gain promotion to the topflight.

KOBAMELO KODISANG IN SENSATIONAL FORM

Understandably so, the South African has been one of the best performers for Moreirense this season. Friday’s goal brought his tally to 10 goals while he has also provided three assists.

Kodisang is beginning to find some much-needed consistency with his performances, scoring in his last two matches on the bounce.

He scored the winner last time out as his side walked away 1-0 victors over Trofense. Kodisang struck again in his fourth match after his return from an injury layoff.

The result saw Kodisang’s Moreirense stretch their lead at the top of the Liga Portugal 2 to 14 points over second-placed Estrela Amadora.

Kodisang will be hoping to maintain the red-hot form that saw him convince Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos that he is worthy of a place in the senior national team.

READY TO STEP UP

Having represented South Africa at junior levels, Kodisang seems ready to make the step up to the seniors if his recent performances are anything to go by.

He has now made a strong case for his inclusion in Broos’ final squad to face Liberia in Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers later this month.

Broos is expected to trim his 35-member preliminary squad to 23 players next week, with Kodisang among those looking to make the cut.

And with veteran Belgian tactician Broos not shy to give opportunities to young players, Kodisang could be the latest to get a crack.
