Njabulo Blom makes welcome return to action in the MLS

Bafana Bafana midfielder Njabulo Blom has made his return to action for his Major League Soccer [MLS] side St Louis City.

The former Kaizer Chiefs midfield workhorse had missed two weeks of action due to an undisclosed Illness.

He was forced to withdraw from Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad that is currently doing battle against Liberia in back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] qualifiers.

NJABULO BLOM MISSED THE LAST TWO MATCHES

Blom missed the last two matches for City due to Illness and, as a result, couldn’t travel to join Bafana.

Broos was left fuming by the situation and went as far as threatening to take the MLS side to FIFA. The Belgian mentor believed they had sinister intentions for keeping Blom.

In the end, he was forced to replace the 23-year-old with Orlando Pirates midfielder Miguel Timm.

Bafana didn’t fare well without Blom, playing what could be a costly 2-2 draw at home against the Lone Stars.

They will now have to bag maximum points away from home out in Monrovia on Tuesday to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Afcon alive.

They find themselves in a precarious position, sitting bottom of their group with one point from two matches.

With Zimbabwe still suspended by FIFA, two out of the three teams in Group K will qualify for the tournament in Ivory Coast next year.

BLOM MAKES RETURN TO ACTION

Although Blom will not be available for Bafana on Tuesday, the Soweto-born midfielder is now back to fitness and he made his return to action on Sunday when his side thumped Real Salt Lake 4-0.

He came off the bench in the 77th minute to replace German midfielder Eduard Löwen and see out the game for Bradley Carnell’s charges.
