The one element that Pfumbidzai could bring to SuperSport United

Thatayaone Ditlhokwe‘s departure from SuperSport United leaves a big void, but Zimbabwean defender Ronald Pfumbidzai looks set to bring something different.

Ronald Pfumbidzai will join SuperSport United at the end of the current season after agreeing terms in principle.

The 28-year-old gifted left-back has been in the books of PSL side Chippa United since January 2022.

He is in the last six months of his contract. Therefore, he is free to sign a pre-contract.

In a youthful Chippa squad, the former Caps United defender has stood out as a leader under Morgan Mammila and later Kurt Lentjies.

This season, Pfumbidzai made 16 appearances in all competitions, with four goals to his name.

WHAT PFUMBUDZAI COULD BRING TO SUPERSPORT UNITED

Nine of the starts were as a centre-back, away from his usual left-back position. And it is his versatility that could prove vital to Gavin Hunt and his lieutenants.

What makes it interesting is that he could be fighting for the left-back position with Onismor Bhasera, his countryman.

Undoubtedly, Pfumbidzai’s arrival intensifies competition for the vital left-back position where Bhasera has been holding fort.

Bhasera is the current Matsatsantsa skipper. However, the arrival of Pfumbidzai could renew an old rivalry.

In Zimbabwe, there has always been a battle for the left-back position between Pfumbidzai, Bhasera and Golden Arrows’ Divine Lunga.

However, 37-year-old Bhasera has been atop, getting the nod from the previous Zimbabwe national team coaches Zdravko Logarušić and Norman Mapeza.

Pfumbidzai, the overlapping full-back has been in the DStv Premiership for the last six years.

He first played for Bloemfontein Celtics in 2017, whom he joined from Caps United after a meteoric rise at the Zimbabwean giants.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United sit in second position in the current campaign ahead of the remaining seven games.
