AmaTuks coach gives title race verdict

AmaTuks coach Tlisane Motaung has given his verdict on the Motsepe Foundation Championship title race.

AmaTuks have struggled to find a consistent winning formula in the National First Division. As a result, Tlisane Motaung’s men have lost ground on the chasing pack.

At the beginning of the season, the Pretoria-based side was favourites to win promotion to the DStv Premiership. This was after they finished as runners-up last season.

AmaTuks finished second last season behind Richards Bay, who gained promotion to the PSL.

Tuks also missed promotion after falling short in the promotion/relegation playoffs. In the current campaign, AmaTuks have won eight games and drawn 10 while losing seven times after 25 games. They are positioned ninth on the league table with 33 points.

AMATUKS NOT GIVING UP

Despite losing track of the race to gain promotion, Motaung says his troops will fight until the last game of the season.

“This season hasn’t been easy for us, looking at how many key players we lost at the start of the season,” Motaung told FARPost.

“We lost players in key players like Siyanda Msani, Luvuyo Phewa, Keagan Allan, Wonderboy Mkhukhu and Thabang Sibanyoni.

“Ultimately, we still have a good team capable of competing. So when it comes to the title race, it’s not over until the fat lady sings.

“The mentality amongst our players and technical team is to fight until the end. We are going to give it our all until the last game.

“I mean, when you look at most of our games where we dropped points, it was mainly poor decisions from the referees,” Motaung added.

AmaTuks played a goalless draw against the title contenders Polokwane City on Saturday at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
