Super League: Royal AM shocks Sundowns Ladies with narrow victory

Royal AM shocked reigning Hollywoodbets Super League champions Sundowns Ladies after narrowly beating them 1-0 on match-day eight.

It was a weekend of surprises as Ma-indies won their first league game this season. A good 20 goals were scored in all eight games played on Saturday and Sunday.

ROYAL AM SHOCKS SUNDOWNS

Royal AM got their first win over Sundowns in the history of the Super League on Sunday, 02 April, at the TUKS Stadium in Pretoria.

The first half started with Sundowns dominating most of the possession and denying Royal AM time and space on the ball.

However, that all fizzled out after 10 minutes, as Royal AM started to gain confidence. At that point, they started creating chances and coming at the former African champions. The two teams went to the break deadlocked at 0-0.

Just two minutes into the second half, Royal AM scored the solitary goal that won them the game. They didn’t look like they were about to stop.

In the 54th minute, Royal AM came close to making it two, but the crossbar denied the bar.

A few seconds later, Sundowns had second-half substitute Lelona Daweti’s goal ruled out for offside.

An intense and thrilling battle between the two sides continued for the large parts of the second half as Sundowns continued their search for an equaliser.

However, all their efforts were not enough, as they conceded their first loss of the season.

After succumbing to their first loss, Banyana Ba Style dropped to second place. They have amassed 19 points, two behind UWC, who are on 21 points with a game in hand.

Royal AM will remain sixth after collecting 15 points.

THE REST OF THE SUPER LEAGUE GAMES
