Kaizer Chiefs could equal 2019/20 feat against Marumo Gallants

Kaizer Chiefs could equal a feat they last achieved in the 2019/20 season when they meet Marumo Gallants in a DStv Premiership clash on Saturday.

Chiefs host Gallants at the FNB Stadium on Saturday [20h00] in a potentially explosive clash.

Chiefs are chasing a fifth successive league win, which would be six on the trot in all competitions. The Easter weekend fixture comes on the back of a 2-1 home win against Stellenbosch in their last league game.

KAIZER CHIEFS COULD EQUAL HOME RECORD

They take on a Gallants side languishing in 16th place on the DStv Premiership table. The Limpopo side is desperate to climb up the table to avoid the drop.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa will be buoyed by their emphatic win over Royal AM 3-1 in Bloemfontein on Wednesday night.

Interestingly, a win will see Chiefs win a third consecutive home league game. This is a feat the club last achieved in the 2019-20 season.

But the Kaizer Chiefs duo of Zitha Kwinika and Christian Saile Basomboli have warned their teammates of the threat posed by Gallants.

KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYERS CELEBRATING A GOAL

“They’re showing they are fighting for their lives. And for us, it is a matter of us being on our game and not taking it lightly,” Kwinika told the Chiefs website.

The former Stellenbosch FC defender believes that “the log is not a true reflection of a team’s performance.”

DRAWS CONFIDENCE

Of course, he draws confidence from his boyhood club’s recent good run.

“We are in the process of finding consistency in winning, which was missing before. And the more consistent we get at winning, the better it will be for the team,” he said.

Amakhosi forward Christian Saile Basomboli says they have trained “with the right intensity and be ready for Saturday.”

A win against Gallants will help Amakhosi’s cause to keep pace with Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United as they fight for second spot.

All three teams are on 40 points as they challenge for second place and a spot in next year’s CAF Champions League.
