Ex-Pirates star and Hakimi nominated for Marc-Vivien Foé Award 2023

A former Orlando Pirates midfielder and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi are among the stars nominated for Marc-Vivien Foé Award 2023.

The 11 finalists were announced on Monday, 17 February as the 2022/23 season is approaching the end in France.

The award was named in honour of the former Cameroon international who died in 2003 at the age of 28. He collapsed on the pitch during a game against Colombia.

It is bestowed upon the best African player in the Ligue 1 every year.

Last year, the award was won by Cote d’Ivoire international Seko Fofana who plies his trade at Lens. He also made the cut this year as he has been one of the key players in helping Lens sit in the top three.

Last season, Fofana beat Hakimi but the Atlas Lions right-back is one of the favourites this year after an exceptional showing with Morocco in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
