Fadlu Davids’ advice to his charges as relegation fears mount

Maritzburg United head coach Fadlu Davids has offered advice to his side that’s facing the growing threat of relegation from the DStv Premiership.

Despite putting in a dominant display against Swallows on Thursday afternoon, Maritzburg United suffered a late 1-0 defeat to the Birds at the Dobsonville Stadium.

Since rejoining the Team of Choice, Davids has overseen 14 Llague games, winning four, drawing two and losing eight.

He has called for his side to turn a blind eye to their previous results if they want to turn things around.

“We’ve made it difficult for ourselves in relation to it becomes now a three-horse race with Marumo Gallants who we are playing next,” said Davids.

“Only three points will keep it at a three-horse race. And that’s what we’ve got to do.

“In situations like these, when things are not falling for you, you have to continue, you have to persevere, you have to keep going.

“Like the last game [against Richards Bay] we created so many chances, being on the front foot and not win the game.

“In a game like this [against Swallows] where we were on top, they’re waiting for the counter, they’re closing shops, putting more numbers behind while we’re pushing more numbers forward and then one moment we lose it.

“So, we have to continue, we have to keep going with the positive minds. We cannot be thinking now about this bad luck that is on us, on our shoulders.

“We have to start the next game without any previous history going into it. So, that’s what we’ll be doing going into the Marumo Gallants game.”

Maritzburg remain rooted to the foot of the table with 25 points after 27 games.

They are next on action against the in-form Marumo Gallants on Wednesday, 03 May at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
