Linda Mntambo reveals why Stellies is a tough opponent to face

Sekhukhune United captain, Linda Mntambo, has revealed why Stellenbosch FC will be a tough opponent to face in the Nedbank Cup.

Both Sekhukhune and Stellenbosch are set to make their first appearance in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals on Sunday, May 7.

Both teams had contrasting passages to this stage of the competition. Sekhukhune started their Nedbank Cup journey against an ABC Motsepe league side, Liver Brothers.

In that game, Sekhukhune demolished Liver Brothers 6-0 to progress to the last 16, where they won 2-0 against Motsepe Foundation side Cape Town Spurs.

In the quarter-finals, they eliminated Chippa United after a 2-1 victory. However, their opponents, Stellies, had a completely different journey.

They knocked out all three DStv Premiership sides they faced at various stages of the knockout competition.

The Winelands outfit accounted for Swallows 3-0 in the last 32 before a 6-3 victory over TS Galaxy.

It was their big win against the DStv Premiership champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, in the quarter-finals that showed they meant business.

In an interview with Robert Marawa on #MSW, Linda Mntambo had nothing but praise for the Capetonians.

MNTAMBO ON STELLENBOSCH

“When they are playing at home, in Stellenbosch, in Cape Town, they are a different side. Looking at how they got through to the semi-finals against Mamelodi Sundowns tells you how much of a good team they are. And ever since they lost one of their players, they have come out guns blazing.

“You can see that they’ve got something to play for, the memory of the player they lost [Oshwin Andries].”

Mntambo continued: “I think for us, it’s also bringing our A game on the day and making sure that we beat them,” concluded Mntambo.
